Paper Shredding Options

Shredding paper offers businesses more than a waste management solution. It can be a cost effective and convenient method of destroying old paperwork, a secure means of getting rid of sensitive printed data, and a more beneficial alternative to completing shredding in-house. While in-house shredding may be the best option for some companies, remote and mobile document destruction is likely to yield the greatest benefits and offer the best service.

Whereas remote destruction requires the shredding company to collect paperwork and take it away before shredding, mobile document destruction can be completed right outside your office. This means that you can be absolutely certain of the integrity of the data contained in that paperwork because you can even watch the shredding take place, if you want to.

Document shredding is an important part of the modern business process. Many businesses keep and print off data pertaining to their own organisation, to their employees and stakeholders, and to their clients and customers. Contained within this information can be sensitive data, and if this falls into the wrong hands it can prove damaging for the people or organisations concerned, as well as your company.

In House Shredding

There is a proliferation of shredders and shredding devices now available, and as with virtually any type of office equipment, the better the quality of the item you want, the more you will have to pay for it. With shredders, this means that you will have to pay more for machinery that will shred multiple pages at a time, and that provides cross hatch shredding, rather than the less secure single cut shredding.

Not only do you need to buy the shredder itself, but you will also have to pay for maintenance of the equipment. You will need somebody from within your company to conduct the actual shredding, as well as collect the paper, and then you will need a way to ensure that the shredded paperwork is taken for recycling. It can be expensive and inconvenient to perform shredding within your own organisation.

Remote Paper Shredding

One alternative is to use a remote paper shredding company. These companies typically have large shredding equipment in a unit somewhere, and they will send out trucks to collect the paperwork before removing it, shredding it, and recycling it. The process is more convenient than completing the work within your own premises, but the fact that you lose sight of paperwork while it is transported, means that this is not necessarily the most secure alternative.

Remote paper shredding can be beneficial for an organisation, but if you want additional security and greater peace of mind that paperwork has been properly disposed of and destroyed then you should consider another alternative.

Mobile Document Destruction

Mobile document destruction is similar to remote paper shredding. The company you use will collect your paperwork, but instead of taking it away for shredding, they will shred it outside your premises. You, or a member of your team, will be able to watch and ensure that the paperwork is properly destroyed and, once the shredding is completed, the paper will be taken away and sent for recycling.

Not only is mobile document destruction convenient, it offers total peace of mind. The shredding van should use a secure, cross hatch technique, and it enables you to watch the process from beginning to end so that you can have total confidence that the paperwork is completely destroyed. This means that there is no chance of data being stolen, and it means that you can confidently inform customers and stakeholders that used paperwork has been environmentally and securely shredded.
